Ernestine Shepherd, the oldest competitive female bodybuilder in the world never set foot in a gym until she turned 56. The age most of us would not consider taking few minutes walk as important let alone do dishes. But she set a goal for herself!
At that age, She and her sister, Velvet, who were funnily out of shape, aimed to get into the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest bodybuilding sisters in the world. Although, Velvet didn’t live to see the dream come true due to a brain aneurysm that led to her death, Shepherd made it several times into the record.

She has won two bodybuilding titles, as well as run nine marathons. She also leads exercise classes for seniors at the Union Memorial United Methodist Church in Baltimore, and works as a personal trainer. She published a book, ‘Determined, Dedicated, Disciplined To Be Fit’, in 2016.
As a matter of fact, she is still regarded as an active bodybuilder and coaches young ones, today, at 85!
